Unicorns’ Match Against LA Knight Riders Cancelled Due to Wet Outfield
Following a period of torrential rain over the past 24 hours, the Church Street Park pitch in Morrisville, NC, has been deemed unplayable due to heavy rainfall causing a wet outfield, leading to the cancellation of San Francisco Unicorns’ match against the LA Knight Riders on July 13.
Major League Cricket came to the decision in order to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans. The recent torrential rain also saw the abandonment of the MI New York v Texas Super Kings match on the evening of July 12.
Those who have purchased tickets for the match will receive an email from the official Major League Cricket account with further instructions.
Justin Geale, VP of Cricket, Major League Cricket, said of the cancellation: “We understand the disappointment this may cause fans and are equally disappointed to have to call off today’s match. We received over three inches of rain yesterday on the back of persistent showers over the last week, however, our team is working tirelessly to prepare the ground for tomorrow’s game, and we remain optimistic given the favorable forecast and drying conditions.”
The cancellation of the Unicorns’ third match of the 2024 Major League Cricket season sees them share the points with the Knight Riders, leaving them on three points after three games. They remain in fifth position with one more match to come in Morrisville against Seattle Orcas on 15 July, before returning to the Grand Prairie stadium, near Dallas, TX, for their final three league matches.
