Unicorns Add Juanoy Drysdale to Roster as Plunkett Replacement
San Francisco Unicorns has added The Philadelphians fast-medium bowler Juanoy Drysdale to its roster for the remainder of the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) season, replacing Liam Plunkett, who picked up an injury against MI New York.
Drysdale, a former teammate of Plunkett at the Minor League Cricket team in Philadelphia, is highly-regarded by the Unicorns’ scouting team which operates in partnership with Cricket Victoria, and is expected to add variety to the teams’ pace attack, as well as providing accomplished batting skill down the order.
Further changes to the Unicorns’ roster include fast bowler Brody Couch dropping out of the playing squad after picking up a muscle injury in the recent victory over Seattle Orcas, and the departure of Matt Short to England’s The Hundred tournament, where he will play for the Northern Superchargers.
Juanoy Drysdale, bowler for the San Francisco Unicorns, commented: “The Unicorns are on fire right now and I’m looking forward to helping out the team as they enter the final stages of this year’s Major League Cricket season. Losing Liam is clearly a big loss, but he’s given me some great insight into the quality of the squad and my role within it, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Graham Manou, General Manager of High Performance at San Francisco Unicorns, added: “The nature of T20 tournaments is that we have to act on the fly to injuries and player availability. Losing Liam, Brody, and Matt will affect our squad make up, but we have planned for this with first-class players ready to slot in at any time, including Juanoy Drysdale, who we’re excited to see in action.”
The Unicorns retain the option to replace both Brody Couch and Matt Short in their 19-man roster for their final league game against Washington Freedom on July 22nd and remaining games in the playoffs. The San Francisco side have already qualified for the Qualifier match on July 25th, also against Washington Freedom.
